After the recent announcement that Portland Coastguard Station would be shut, campaigners have begun a petition to encourage support, to base the proposed new 24-hour Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) within the borough of Weymouth and Portland instead of the intended location of Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire.
Backed by the Dorset Echo, people have until 6th October to sign the petition or submit their comments via an online form on the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) website.
There is now an online iPetition steup in order to raise awareness and support by those wishing to have the new Coastguard Supercentre based in the Weymouth and Portland Borough.
