Save Our Lifesavers Campaign - UPDATED

After the recent announcement that Portland Coastguard Station would be shut, campaigners have begun a petition to encourage support, to base the proposed new 24-hour Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) within the borough of Weymouth and Portland instead of the intended location of Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire.

Backed by the Dorset Echo, people have until 6th October to sign the petition or submit their comments via an online form on the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) website.

STORY UPDATED:

There is now an online iPetition steup in order to raise awareness and support by those wishing to have the new Coastguard Supercentre based in the Weymouth and Portland Borough.

For more details and to sign it yourself, visit the webpage at www.ipetitions.com/petition/saveourlifesavers/

Comments

i have been out angling many times off portland, both india juliet and whisky bravo can be heard over the radio, mainly rescuing divers in particular during the summer months, where seconds can count with regards to survival or not. This service isn't broke and it appears to have a brilliant record of acheivment. Improve it by moving the operation, i think not. Don't fix what isn't broke. Please.
